Explore the water around New South Wales
Sutherland Point is a perfect destination to find the highly interesting Weedy Sea Dragon, as well as a unique attraction in the form of a small cave which is home to the family of blind sharks. The site has numerous swim-throughs and a small sponge garden and commonly a large variety of schooled fish such as Yellowtail, Giant Cuttlefish, Wobbegongs and Blue Groper may be seen. The site is shielded from southernly swell and can be dived when it's too rough for the other sites in the area. Because of its proximity to the shore of the bay, its visibility is usually not as good. For the best visibility, it’s always best to dive this site on an incoming tide.

This site always has something different to see and well protected from Southerly swell. I've had a couple of seals come and play with me here and I've had a special find of an Ornate Ghost Pipefish in the warmer months. There's a lovely wall to explore, and a field of growth covered boulders for hiding Anglerfish and baby Weedy Seadragons. Easy entry and exit, good amenities and lovely lush grass for picnics between dives!
Having dived at Sutherland Point many times, it is a dive site that you can never tire of. The marine life is so abundant here, from the giant bull rays, wobbegongs, Port Jackson Sharks, moray eels, sea horses and the weedy sea dragons, plus so much more there is always something to see here and as it's a fairly sheltered shore dive, entries and exits are always possible. I would highly recommend this little gem of a site.
