Fathom Five Divers

Located on the south side of Kauai, this is our go-to and most popular shore diving site on Kauai. Hanakaape Bay provides great protection for year round diving at this site. Once the main harbor for Kauai, divers and snorkelers may still see anchor chains and remnants of boating activity underwater. This is NOT your typical shore dive site like in California where you will have to walk for a mile before you swim for a mile before you can descend. This is a VERY EASY entry and exit dive site featuring a “U” Shaped reef with sand and rubble in the middle, surrounded by a sloping rock wall formation. There are large schools of reef fish that congregate on the sides of the bay and hidden flounders in the sandy middle. Hawaiian green sea turtles (honu) rest here during the day and, on occasion, a curious Hawaiian monk seal can be spotted beneath the water or on the ramp. Keep a look out for lagoon trigger fish, box fish, many variety of moray eels (including the dragon moray eel), octopus, frog fish, and trumpet fish among the coral rubble. In the winter months we can even hear the whales singing their songs under water. With more than 20 species of endemic fish, this is a perfect shore dive location in Kauai!

Koloa Landing is located in Hanaka’ape Bay, Kauai and is a very popular dive site, especially for scuba instruction. The entry is easy, and there is plenty to see to the left and right of the landing.

Sheraton Caverns is our most popular and most requested south side dive site. Therefore, 8/10 boat trips we will find ourselves at the this magnificent dive site. We are also the only company to access the caverns on our scooter adventure dive. Featuring a system of partially collapsed lava tubes, this makes up the majority of this spot with lots of nooks and crannies for the critters to hide in. Archways and partial overhangs create stunning swim-throughs for divers and give this site some of the most spectacular scenery found underwater. Many green turtles (honu) also enjoy the lava tubes for napping. Schools of bluestripe snappers and surgeonfish hang out in the lava tubes. It is common to see large white mouth moray eels, conger eels, and spiny lobsters. On occasion there’s even a white tip reef shark or two. On top of the lava tubes there is a healthy hard coral reef where divers sometimes find octopus, nudibranchs, frogfish and harlequin shrimp. You want to feel like you’re diving in an aquarium, this is the spot!

This dive site has amazing rock structure, giving lots of hiding places for fish to hideout, making Fish Bowl one of Kauai’s fishiest dives, hence the name. You’ll also see evidence of old lava flows here.

Site is located at the east end of the south side dive sites. With its location so close to the point the currents here can rip. Mostly done as a drift, this site is one of the best there is on Kauai. Starting at around 60 feet the ledge drops off and turns into an overhang about 15 ft. farther down.

Don’t forget your camera on this dive! Not only is the underwater scenery spectacular, but chances for whale and dolphin sightings on the boat ride out is also high. Sheraton Caverns is located just off Poipu Beach and is relatively untroubled by harsh ocean swells.
